VMWare Keys Repeating

When administering a VMWare server over a slow connection or over remote desktop you may experience keys repeating as though the key is being held down. This makes the server pretty much impossible to administrate as it usually prevents you from being able to login. Luckily there is a way to fix this by increasing the time a key has to be held before the key repeats. To modify this setting you will need to power off your virtual machine and locate the vmx file for your virtual machine which holds the configuration settings. At the end of the file add the following values and the start your virtual machine back up.

keyboard.typematicMinDelay = “2000000″ (This value is in miliseconds)
host.useTSC = “TRUE”

After making this change on one of my virtual machines I found that in VMWare Server it was reporting that the machine was an old version so it refused to start it. To correct this remove the virtual machine from the console but do not click to remove the files. Then choose to add an existing virtual machine to the inventory and it should start up properly.
